Expanding the Picture
Posted on  25th July, 2019

We were fortunate to follow the development of Expanding the Picture, an ongoing relationship between Mary Prestidge and two emerging dance artists based at Bluecoat, Liverpool’s centre for the contemporary arts. Through a six month programme, the members of Blue Room, Tony Carroll and Diana Disley created a full length piece which explores the possibilities of improvisation. Inspired by their own individual interests and ambitions, Tony and Diana developed the work through multidisciplinary activities, engaging with sound, live music, objects, projections and each other.

This film is a small insight into their creative process within which each workshop grew into a spectacle of their own and often something like of a meditative experience. The project culminated with a mesmerising performance that showed us rare authenticity and left us wondering over what could come from daring to truly let go of control, welcome freedom and embrace the present moment as it comes. All the while being on stage.
