“It’s a fascinating history, from the enlightenment to where we are now.. You can almost chart and change the history of the city through this building. The sense of the civic, which is important at some times, and the inward lookingness and outward lookingness, and the global connections.”

We began our film portraits for the My Bluecoat project back in 2016 with a pilot for the lovely Eddie Rauer, a regular at the Bluecoat with a host stories about his time spent at the venue. Starting next week we begin filming for a series of 30 portraits spanning the 300 year history of the venue, from it’s beginnings as a school through to it’s incarnation as a melting pot of performance, arts and crafts. Looking forward to seeing what stories emerge, both from individual experiences and through the collective memory of the Bluecoat. What links and threads emerge through the 30 narratives will become clear as we get underway.
